There are limited data on the characterization of medication-related visits (MRVs) to the emergency department (ED) in pediatric patients in Italy. We have estimated the frequency, severity, and classification of MRVs to the ED in pediatric patients

“Wake-up time activation” in older adults: first randomized experimental clinical trial

Balance main rely on vestibular, proprioceptive and visual apparatus integrity. In elderly, postural control fails also due to deficit of sensory functions, atrophy of the musculoskeletal system and neuronal reduction. Deterioration of these functions finally lead to abnormality in performing voluntary muscle movements, subjective feeling of vulnerability, insecurity and depression. Besides, physical inactivity (hypokinesia) is a major risk factor for developing coronary artery disease and stroke, contributing to obesity, high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes. For these reasons, especially in elderly, it is important to include physical activity as part of a regular routine. Aim of this randomized controlled trial was to demonstrate that daily subministration of “Wake-up Time Activation” protocol allow individual recovery of balance and tensile properties of periarticular and intra-articular structures, so preventing morning stiffness and reduction of the Range Of Motion (R.O.M.), mainly in the Vertebral Columna. Therefore, we propose to 50 Healthy individuals (age 45-86) of both sexes a peculiar sequence of movements that allow individual recovery of balance and tensile properties of periarticular and intra-articular structures, so preventing morning stiffness and reduction of the Range Of Motion (R.O.M.), mainly in the Vertebral Columna. To verify the effectiveness of this exercises, we scientifically detected, by mean of validated test and instruments, different parameters at tifferent time, for each individual, for two months. Tests were detected at T0 (before starting daily exercises), T1 (after one month of daily exercises), T2 (at the end of the second month of exercises). At each time, on every person, we performed: Cervical Test, Spinal motility, Pelvic motility (mobility); Standing one leg Test (balance); Get up and Go (reactivity); SF-36 (mood/depression); Paint Rating Scales (joint pain). Statistical analysis of obtained results, discussed in detail in the Postrer, scientifically demonstrate that performing of “Wake-up Time Activation” protocol of adapted fisical activity lead to immediate and persistent back pain reduction, articular R.O.M. increase, recovery of balance and coordination, improved autonomy and mood, also in elderly

Challenging point scanning across electron microscopy and optical imaging using computational imaging

Solving challenges of enhanced imaging (resolution or speed) is a continuously changing frontier of research. Within this sphere, ghost imaging (and the closely related single-pixel imaging) has evolved as an alternative to focal plane detector arrays owing to advances in detectors and/or modulation devices. The interest in these techniques is due to their robustness to varied sets of patterns and applicability to a broad range of wavelengths and compatibility with compressive sensing. To achieve a better control of illumination strategies, modulators of many kinds have long been available in the optical regime. However, analogous technology to control of phase and amplitude of electron beams does not exist. We approach this electron microscopy challenge from an optics perspective, with a novel approach to imaging with non-orthogonal pattern sets using ghost imaging. Assessed first in the optical regime and subsequently in electron microscopy, we present a methodology that is applicable at different spectral regions and robust to non-orthogonality. The distributed illumination pattern sets also result in a reduced peak intensity, thereby potentially reducing damage of samples during imaging. This imaging approach is potentially translatable beyond both regimes explored here, as a single-element detector system

L'associazione fra tumore della tiroide e tumore della mammella è stata rilevata nel nostro studio in 4 casi su 139 pazienti (2,9%).Breast cancer and thyroid cancer occur together in the same female patients more frequently than would be expected by chance. This study investigated the prevalence and clinicopathological characteristics of second primary breast cancer in thyroid cancer patients and second primary thyroid cancer in breast cancer patients. A retrospective study was performed in 64 patients with differentiated thyroid cancer and 75 patients with breast cancer. Of the 64 patients with thyroid cancer 1 patient developed subsequent breast cancer during a five-year follow-up and 2 patients developed breast cancer before thyroid cancer. Among the 75 patients with breast cancer, 1 patient developed subsequent thyroid cancer during a five-year follow-up. Subsequent thyroid cancer diagnosed within five years of the initial breast cancer showed more aggressiveness. This study revealed that patients with thyroid cancer or breast cancer have a higher risk of developing second primary breast cancer or thyroid cancer, respectively. Association between thyroid cancer and breast cancer was detected in our study in 4 cases on 139 patients (2.9%)
